Advance UK Welcomes Councillor Chris Marriott: “Politics Must Be Rooted in Community, Not Personality”

Advance UK is pleased to announce that Councillor Chris Marriott, who represents the Armthorpe Ward on Doncaster Council, has agreed jointly with the party to sit as an Advance UK councillor — strengthening the party’s growing presence in local government and its commitment to serious, community-led politics.

Cllr. Marriott’s decision follows a period of careful reflection on the direction of modern politics and the responsibilities owed to the residents who placed their trust in him at the ballot box. A lifelong resident of Armthorpe for 58 years, Chris entered public life out of a sense of duty to his community, not personal ambition. Since his election in May 2025, he has worked closely with fellow ward councillors in Armthorpe and Doncaster to address residents’ concerns, improve local services, and ensure transparency in local decision-making.

Explaining his decision to leave Reform UK and join Advance UK, Cllr. Marriott said:

“After the May 2025 elections, it became clear to me that Reform UK’s national leadership had shifted its focus away from communities like Doncaster, despite the strong support shown here. Promises of senior backing were not kept, local organisation became unstable, and the party increasingly revolved around one individual rather than the people it was meant to serve.

I entered politics to represent my community honestly and transparently. After reviewing Advance UK’s principles and speaking directly with Ben Habib, I am convinced this is the right home for the kind of politics my constituents expect — rooted in nation, freedom, democracy, and equality under UK law. This decision is about putting people before personalities and restoring trust in public life.”

Chris is well regarded locally for his accessibility and determination to follow through on issues raised by residents — whether involving highways, planning, housing, or other agencies. He has been clear that accountability does not end once an issue is reported, and that persistence on behalf of constituents is a fundamental duty of public office.

Advance UK represents a natural alignment with those values. It is a party founded on principle rather than performance, rejecting centralised control and personality-driven politics in favour of accountability, sovereignty, and democratic responsibility. Just to give everyone who doesn't know me a bit more info.

I am born and bred in Armthorpe and attended Armthorpe Church School, Shaw Wood Academy and Armthorpe Comprehensive. My father worked for decades at DMBC as Chief Payroll officer. After retirement he went all over the UK doing lectures on finance issues. He also produced a book annually with updates to Finance and payroll laws. 

After leaving school I went into retail. After many a year I decided to have a complete career change joining First bus Doncaster.

At FirstBus Doncaster I climbed the ladder from Driver, Supervisor to Forward Allocator (Senior Management). For the last 5 years I worked for First Bus at Crucial Crew educating  Y6 children from all over South Yorkshire alongside SYP SYFS,SYRS and SY magistrates before retiring at the end of 2024 .

Since then I'm in the process of setting up a small business venture, passed exams and registered with the CAA to fly drones and became a Ward Councillor in May 2025 of which Im extremely proud of achieving. I stood as a Reform candidate till I resigned the whip and became an Independent. Please see next FAQ about why I have now become a member of Advance UK.

I have 3 children 21 31 and 34 and at the end of November 2025 my first Grandchild was born.

I coached, refereed football and was a committee member for DDJSFL.

I'm also a Community First responder for First Aid and Cardiac Arrest backed up with qualifications in CPR,First Aid, AED, PALS and ACLS.

I also hold a Safety Officer qualification and Health and Safety qualification.

In 2019 I was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease. I hope that with me being elected as a Ward Councillor it gives inspiration to anyone with a disability that if you put your heart mind and soul in to it, anything is acheivable.
